Blackrapid R-Strap: The R-Revolution Begins

Posted on May 08, 2009 in News: Bags, Straps & Pouches, BlackRapid

Many times, the most revolutionary inventions are sparked off by the simplest ideas, but what differentiated these ideas from the rest that never took off is the extra dose of passion and firm belief that their creators have in them. A case in point would be the BlackRapid R-Strap.

BlackRapid’s R-Strap has its humble beginnings dated back to 2006 when professional photographer Ronald Dean Henry decided that he needed a camera strap that would keep his camera safe while providing fast and easy access to capture that perfect shot in a photojournalistic style. The fruit of his labor, the R-Strap, provided all that and more.

Worn diagonally across the torso from the shoulder to hip, this patent-pending strap is connected to the tripod socket located on either the camera body or the lens using its locking FastenR. Once connected, the camera hangs upside down, resting snugly at your side or in the small of your back with the lens pointing behind you. And when you spot the perfect chance for a shot, just glide the camera up the strap into shooting position with one hand and click away. It’s that simple yet revolutionary.

The R-Strap comes in three sizes: RS-1, RS-2 and the new RS-4. The maximum circumference for RS-1 and RS-4 is 60 inches (30 inches from top of left shoulder to right hip) while the RS-2 is slightly longer at 72 inches (or 36 inches across the torso). All straps are adjustable in length to suit most photographers.

RS-1 has a basic and slim design, with no storage pockets for your accessories. RS-2, on the other hand, is like the Swiss Army Knife of camera straps; it comes equipped with a zippered pocket concealed by a front flap, which has room enough for your business cards, an extra battery and up to two CF cards. There is also an external pocket that can hold a small mobile phone. For something in between, there is the RS-4 which has a quick-access zippered pocket for holding two memory cards.

With the R-Strap, you can now maneuver easily through the crowd without worrying about your equipment getting bumped and still enjoy easy access to your camera.
