My Favorite Things - Photo Contest by Lowepro & Polar Bears International

Posted on Jul 07, 2010 in Events & Community, Lowepro

The months of July & August look set to be totally fabulous! Not only do we have lots of exciting contests lined up for all you photography fans, along with plenty of great prizes to be won, the themes are bound to put a big SMILE on your face because it's all about YOU!

Firstly, if you've been following our blog or are subscribed to our mailing list, you'd probably know by now that we have just launched our "Things That Make You SMILE" online photo competition.

Supported by Datacolor, it is a simple photo competition where all you need to do is to share photos of - as the name suggests - things that make you smile, as well as a tagline for Datacolor Spyder products. Get your loved ones to vote for your photo and stand to win up to $300 in Cathay Photo vouchers and a Datacolor Spyder3Elite worth $399!

So if you haven't uploaded your photos for the contest, do so now!

And then, moving on to environmental issues, Lowepro together with Polar Bears International (PBI) has launched a photo contest that hopes to draw more attention to the wildlife and eco-systems threatened by climate change and to celebrate the planet's treasures through the medium of photography:

We live in an amazing world. But many of our planet's treasures are being threatened - by climate change, over-development, pollution and other destructive human activities. From polar bears and tigers to whales and ocean coral; many of the things that we cherish are endangered and disappearing.

Photography is one way to make sure our favorite things live on. We'd love to know what's important to you. Send in your favorite images of nature, landscapes (urban or rural), wildlife, cultures or conservation and stand to win the Grand Prize of a Frontiers North's Tundra Buggy® Adventure for two to observe polar bears in their natural habitat in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada in November 2010!

Lowepro was founded in 1967 by photographers and photo professionals who are passionate about nature and the preservation of the natural world, and has been a proud supporter of PBI since 2006. “Lowepro is proud to support photographers and organizations that make it their mission to protect, preserve and create awareness about climate change and its impact to our environment,” said Treg Tyler, Lowepro Worldwide Marketing Director. “This contest is a creative way for photographers worldwide to share images of their ‘favorite things’ that may be threatened” he added.

"PBI and Lowepro are both profoundly dedicated to education and research, and the images from this contest can help spark interest and concern in others. We know that if we can assure the survival of the polar bear - the creature in most immediate peril from climate change and pollutants - we'll have created a better planet for all its flora, fauna, water and air," said Robert Buchanan, CEO of PBI.

“My Favorite Things” photo contest takes place from now to 31 August 2010. For entry information, rules and regulations, please click here.
