Matthews Studio Equipment started out way back in July 1968, founded by Roy Isaia who named the copmany after his first-born. Today, it is 100% independently owned and operated by Ed Phillips (pictured left), who has been with the company since its early days and was instrumental in growing Matthews to its current status. One of the big challenges back then was the fact that major studios built their own gear, which resulted in a lack of a real or defined standard to the equipment used. Matthews began to develop their own line of improvised (and sometimes controversial) equipment and as they progressed, out-sourcing became a one-stop shop convenience for the major studios and rental companies. Their range of grip equipment tools serving the film industry evolved so comprehensively and Matthews Studio Equipment was even honored with two awards for technical achievement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and one from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Since then, they are looked upon as the pioneers of the grip technology. Sold in 51 different countries and still counting, Matthews continues to provide high-quality equipment manufactured in Burbank, California to the film, television, theatrical, still photographic industries. |
RoadRags |

|
RoadRags are a new patented portable lighting modification system that allows the location photographer / videographer the ability to quickly and easily duplicate studio lighting effects on-location using their portable lights. RoadRags kits come with the following:
The elastic-corded frames easily fold for storing and transporting; a simple "flick of the wrist" is all that's required to quickly open the frame, making it ready to use. By using the different materials, the photographer / videographer is able to quickly create contrasts, different light ratios or block the light. The patent-pending RoadRags kits fit into most portable lighting kits. RoadRags kits are available in 18 x24" or 24 x 36". Optional reflector panels like the 18 x 24" Silver Matthflector or 24 x 36" Silver Lame are also available.

The MiniGrip is a whole new family of smaller mounting devices used for clamping and holding a wide variety of production tools and accessories. They are ideal for table-top photography, and in confined areas such as car interiors. The high-impact composite material used to manufacture these products is very strong yet extremely light. MICROmount Basic Kit |

Part of the MICROgrip series of products, the MICROmount is a highly maneuverable and quite versatile on-camera light/monitor mount that utilizes two of the micro-gripheads and three pieces of 3/8" rods, each 4" in length. This flexible set-up allows the photographer to get the on-camera light up from the camera body, thus enabling the light to be positioned to either sides and creating a more desirable "dimensional" lighting effect rather than the "flat" lighting effect. For more dramatic and creative lighting effects with the on-camera lighting fixture, you can add longer rods which are sold separately. This kit also serves as an on-camera monitor mount, allowing the monitor to be placed almost anywhere! Add a few more optional MICROgrip components and the MICROmount can support an on-camera light and monitor, or even two monitors from the same support system.
