A word from Visual Echoes:

No "Better Beamer" has been manufactured for the Canon 420 EX and Nikon SB-50. A number of photographers have been able to make the FX-1B work with Canon 420 EX but it has not been approved by the manufacturer for that use. Neither does the manufacturer recommend the use of a "Better Beamer" on the Nikon SB-50 due to problems with rigidity.

If your flash unit is not listed above (with the exception of Canon 420 EX and Nikon SB-50), here's what you can do:

  • Measure the height of the flash head or refer to your flash manual for dimensions.
  • For those with a height of 1 9/16 inches, you can use the FX-1.
  • For those with a height of 1 3/4 inches, you can use the FX-2.
  • The FX-1B includes shims to fit flash units that are slightly smaller than 1 9/16 inches.
