Mamiya ZD Back By Mamiya For Mamiya
The New Mamiya ZD digital back has been exclusively designed for the Mamiya 645AFD II, 645AD and the New RZ67 Pro IID medium format cameras. The Mamiya ZD digital back provides full camera and back communication via its MSCE (Mamiya Serial Communication for External) data transfer. All important data such as storage space, battery status, exposure data, capture status and much more is communicated and displayed in the viewfinder and main data display of the 645AFD II.
The Mamiya ZD digital back offers a 36mm x 48mm Dalsa CCD 22-megapixel image capture sensor that is nearly 6x4.5cm. The 14-bit A/D (Analog to Digital) conversion records color information as 12-bit per color channel, providing exceptional true-to-life color accuracy. Images are captured in Mamiya RAW format, JPEG or both RAW and JPEG. Three levels of image quality alone with image size are easily selectable through the digital back’s intuitive built-in software menus.
Data transfer from the Dalsa CCD sensor is processed in real-time with its exclusively designed Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). The advantage to the photographer is that image data captured from the sensor is optimized for fast performance. With a frame capture rate of 1.2 fps, it’s one of the fastest 22-megapixel digital Medium-Format capture backs in the industry.
Files can be saved as RAW, JPEG or both at the same time and card slots for both Compact Flash (CF) and Secure Data (SD) offer flexibility of storage options. Approximately 100 images in Mamiya RAW format can be stored onto a 4GB CF card.
To suit a variety of photographic scenes, the standard IR (infrared) cut filter can be interchanged with the optional Low-Pass filter. The Low-Pass filter reduces or removes moiré effect which makes unusual patterns when photographing clothing and also fixes aliasing. Aliasing is seen when a thin straight line is slightly tilted with respect to the array of pixels. The line will be on one line of pixels, then jump to the next, then to the next, producing a “stairstep” effect. The ability to decide which filter to use guarantees the best possible results over a wide range of situations. Utilizing an innovative cartridge-type removable Low-Pass filter (optional), the Mamiya ZD digital back offers photographers a choice, depending on shooting conditions, whether to use the filter or not.
The simple-to-use yet powerful Mamiya Digital Photo Studio software provides the perfect blend of image capture, processing and editing for both MAC- and Windows-based computers. When tethered via a firewire cable, many of the functions of the Mamiya ZD digital back can be operated from a computer.
The Mamiya ZD Back was designed with the user in mind. From the icon-based white balance settings, to the ability to shoot at 1.2 frames per second, to the option of controlling the camera through a computer, the Mamiya ZD Digital Back embodies all the features and tools needed to easily produce outstandingly beautiful images.
