Gary Fong Lightsphere Universal
Same Great Performance, Vastly Improved Mount

Gary Fong’s Lightsphere flash diffusers have received rave reviews from numerous pros and amateurs because they dramatically improve the quality of light from camera-mounted flashes.

The device itself looks and is very simple - just an inverted cone with a fitted inverted dome mounted over the flash. What the Lightsphere does is to bounce the light from the flash off the inverted dome and diffuse it through the sides of the cone to light your subject in a softer, more pleasing light than harsh direct flash. Beyond just lighting the subject, the diffuser also spreads the light around to light the room resulting in a more natural looking image.

In comparison tests with other flash diffusers on the market, leading US magazine Professional Photographer gave the Lightsphere their top five-star rating while the competition received only two or three star ratings. Many users have raved over the dramatic improvement the use of the Lightsphere has brought to their photos.

While no one can fault the quality of the light, the original Lightsphere, however, did have its shortcomings. One major annoyance was the push-fit mount which was not totally secure so it did have a tendency to drop off when there’s plenty of action. The other drawback was that having a push-fit mount means you have to get different-sized Lightspheres if you worked with different flashes.

In one single design revision, these two major problems have been more than satisfactorily rectified. Gary Fong developed a new universal mount that makes the Lightsphere fit most flashes and the best news is that this new universal mount is so securely attached to the flash that you can grab the Lightsphere and lift your entire camera and flash outfit even if the camera is fitted with an accessory motor drive.

The new Lightsphere Universal comes in two versions: clear and cloud. The clear gives a higher output with a slightly cooler tone and less side shadow. If you prefer a softer and slightly warmer light, the cloud is what you need. If you already have the original Lightsphere with some accessory domes, there’s no need to fret as all you need do is to replace your push-fit unit with the Lightsphere Universal and you can enjoy the beautiful light from your Lightsphere with the reassuring knowledge that it’s going to stay secure on your flash.
