Manfrotto 190 CX
A Legend Goes Carbon

Manfrotto’s 190 tripod first introduced in mid 1980 is by far the most popular tripod in the manufacturer’s extensive range of tripods and camera supports. In the more than two decades of its existence, it has undergone several changes, more of which will be talked about under Photo Events (Manfrotto 190CX Operation: Museum) of our website.

In its latest iteration, the award-winning 190X goes carbon fibre and is known as the 190CX. This new carbon fibre model combines great stability and increased rigidity with improved design. New features worth noting are:

  • A refined leg adjustment system;
  • New angle adjusting levers;
  • A leveling bubble incorporated into the head plate; and
  • Highly designed levers and column components.

Thanks to completely new design and innovative production techniques which allow for high quality 100% carbon tube structures, the 190CX guarantees a higher load capacity and an increased height with a 20% reduction in weight. Like the TIPA award-winning 190X, the new 190CX also has the patented centre column system.

The 190CX uses 100% carbon fibre tubes without mixing other fibres so as not to compromise the performance and quality. “Pull Winding” technology is used in their production and the number of layers and angle of the fibre directions give the optimum balance between rigidity and compression resistance. Die castings are in magnesium and aluminum.

The 190CX family includes two PRO versions – the 190 CXPRO3 with three-section legs, the 190PROCX4 with four-section legs – and a basic version, the 190CX3. Features for the two PRO models include: patented Manfrotto horizontal/vertical centre column system, carbon tri-faceted centre column, magnesium top plate, lever lock and top spider die casting, leveling bubble integrated on the top plate and anti-rotation system inside the carbon fibre tubes. On the other hand, the basic model 190CX3 does not feature the quick centre column and magnesium die casting.
